The Veer Zaara is a Bollywood film of 2004. The film, made in the vernacular Hindi, was directed by Yash Chopra and starred Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. Veer-Zaara continues from 2001's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai where Arjun (Shah Rukh Khan) has left his newlywed wife, Maya (Kajol) at their wedding reception to go with his ailing grandmother. The story is set during the Kargil War between India and Pakistan in 1999. It is a love story between a Pakistani army captain (Shah Rukh Khan) who is captured by the Indian army after being shot down during a mission.
